About Us


Stamford Academy, the second charter school opened by Domus and Stamford’s second charter school, opened in 2004 for students in grades nine through twelve who struggled in traditional school environments or had dropped out of school.

Stamford Academy offers an intensive academic program that allows students to catch up on instruction they’ve missed so they are prepared for post-secondary education or training or the skilled workforce upon graduation. Students come to the school performing, on average, four and five grades below level; some are reading as many as eight grades below level. But given the right supportive educational environment, our students are able to focus on their studies and believe in their abilities.

Domus has adopted the Sanctuary Model, a trauma-informed model of organizational change, to improve the health and well-being of our young people and those who care for them. Many youth at Domus have experienced trauma, sometimes frequent and severe trauma. We adopted the Sanctuary Model because we recognize the connection between trauma and behavior. Read more...
